Now Open at Lygon Court

1 April 2013. The owners of iconic Melbourne café, Brunetti, Fabio and Yuri Angelé,

are pleased to announce the opening of their new premises at 380 Lygon Street Carlton on Wednesday 3 April.

In a twist of fate, Brunetti is moving back to the exact location where it originally opened in 1974, before making way for the construction of Lygon Court in the mid 80s and relocating around the corner in Faraday Street.

With a distinctly Roman ambience and aesthetic, the new Brunetti is a sophisticated and traditional Italian café that combines a large architect-designed interior with professional and authentic service, and one of the city’s most extensive arrays of mouth-watering cakes, biscuits, pastries and chocolates, pizzas, panini, breads and gelati.

Designed by Fabio and Yuri’s architect brother, Joe Angelé, the café’s circular design and high ceilings add a sense of theatre and grandeur found in many of Rome’s most prominent cafés. Stunning terrazzo and marble mosaics feature throughout the interior, which is complemented by Italian-designed display cases, contemporary pendant lighting and soft furnishings, murals of black and white images taken in Rome in the 1940s and Brunetti’s signature bisazza tiling.

Moving through the café is a seamless journey past the display cabinets of Brunetti’s signature celebration cakes and the Pasticceria, with its impressive selection of small cakes, pastries and biscuits.

Sicilian chef, Giuseppe Santoro, who recently arrived from Italy, heads up the kitchen, working closely with the Angelé brothers to create an authentic savoury menu including a range of pizza, pasta, traditional Italian breakfast dishes and deli items for both the café and a la carte restaurant within.

Excited by the new offering, Yuri says, “The move back to Lygon Street came out of need to expand and evolve the Brunetti brand and meet the demands of our customers, who have been crying our for more space.

“When the premises came up in Lygon Court, on the exact site that the original Brunetti opened in 1974, it presented us with an opportunity to continue to expand our offering across the board and create a Pizzeria and a la carte restaurant – two new concepts that we have been wanting to introduce for years.

“When Dad bought the business in Faraday Street in 1991, he built it around our dedicated customers and staff, who have helped to make the business the success it is today. Twenty two years later that philosophy hasn’t changed and we want to stay true to our origins, and continue to present one of the best and most authentic Italian café experiences in Australia,” says Yuri.

With its main entrance on Lygon Street, Brunetti seats 100 in the piazza at the entrance, 200 in the heart of the café and 100 in the a la carte restaurant at the rear.

The Pizzeria also seats 15, where customers can sit around the bar on high stools and watch the chefs in action.

Brunetti is open daily from 4am – midnight.
